Our DC Move - Peace in Christ in ASL

A few months ago we took a huge leap of faith. We left our beautiful home and Fayoz's job in Washington state and moved to Washington DC for Fayoz to attend Gallaudet University, the only university in the world designed for deaf students.
There have been many bumps, but at this point I can say I'm so grateful to be here. One of the best things about this area is connecting with the Deaf community. Our Sign Language church group in downtown DC is amazing (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). I have met some other hearing wives who have become my dear friends. All of them are musical and with them I have been able to incorporate Sign Language in a way our husbands can enjoy. We put together this song, it really reflects the feelings I've had through the craziness of this move! I love this song, and my hope is this version can reach someone who needs the message.

  1. Oh, it was fabulous! It was great to see the song from the outside. We should do this more often :)

Super Jesse's Theme Song

Jesse is four years old today! His latest obsession is superheroes and he is a superhero in our family, running around and solving problems. I made up a little song about "Super Jesse" to sing to him at night and he absolutely loved it. I recruited my brother Ethan and his band Cruze Control to perform the song. Jesse would listen to it on repeat and dance to it! Here he is being Super Jesse to his Super Jesse Song. Happy Birthday Super Jesse.

Does that mean you know sign language? When I first got asked this question I was surprised. My husband is deaf, of course I know sign language! However, I have since realized that some hearing/deaf couples really can talk to each other, lip read or use a mix of ASL and speaking. In my case, yes I know sign language and yes I am fluent and it is the way I communicate with my huz. 2. How did you learn ASL? Some hearing wives are native signers with deaf siblings or parents and have grown up in the deaf community. I'm not. I took two high school classes and one semester in college and that's it. I was never super into it (I actually took it because it was easy), but when I met my husband I just fell in love with him and he taught me almost everything I know. Fortunately I picked it up pretty...

Fear God? Learn ASL Weekly Scripture for Families

Our scripture this week: Revelation 14:7 Fear God, and give glory to him; and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea. ASL Word Hints: Fear God, glorify Him; worship Him, himself finish make heaven, earth, sea. That word "fear" comes up yet again! The Blue letter bible helped me decide how we wanted to translate that one which helps you dissect the original words in the bible.  Get the  weekly printout :
